These eco-friendly vintage style crates are made from mango wood.

Mango tree farms are used to produce fruit from the trees. However, as the trees age and increase in height, they eventually stop producing fruit. It is at this point in time that the trees are removed to produce these crates. New trees are subsequently planted therefore restarting this eco friendly cycle.

These boxes are great for any room in the house. From storing fruit and veg in the kitchen, to books and games in the lounge. They are also a great feature in the garden. They will weather as the years go by to provide a real vintage rustic feel. Another option is to turn them upside down to use as unique bedside tables.

Mango wood can vary in it’s shade from tree to tree, so there may be variations in colour with these items. This does of course add to the original feel of such unique items.

These vintage style crates may be purchased from the Bubbledrum online shop.

A fun project (detailed on the WIDN blog) on the eco friendly and crate theme was instigated by some design students from Germany when they built a temporary pavilion called Boxel  using 2000 old beer crates.
